"I booked lunch for our 46th wedding anniversary and wanted it to be something special. A bitterly cold dismal day on the drive to Bakewell was offset as soon
as we entered the Rutland Arms. The traditional comfortable English
decor was relaxing and the politeness and professionalism of the staff
was impressive. The dining room was warm, stylish and comfortable with
a grand array of antique clocks adorning the walls. The wine was well
presented and chilled and our starters were superb. The main course -
chicken breasts were beautifully arranged and the sauce really
exceptional. Everything was cooked to perfection and the whole meal
spoke to me that the chefs were a cut above. Sweets were mouth watering
and my wife had chosen the pear and almond tart very cleverly made to
resemble a pork pie - I was impressed! All in all, a superb and
enjoyable occasion for us and we will be returning. The redeeming
impression was that the Rutland Arms has found that rare thing in this
day and age - the right balance. Clever chefs, professional, friendly
and courteous staff and a relaxed warm and tasteful environment! As I
understand it, the Rutland Arms is still privately owned and as such,
things haven't been messed around with. It is a gem and I really hope
that it never falls into the hands of a group or chain. Thank you for a
wonderful day!"
